LOOSE STEER AT ROSEBURG HIGH SCHOOL

Law enforcement had to deal with a loose steer at Roseburg High School on West Harvard early Thursday morning.
Sergeant Jeff Eichenbusch of the Roseburg Police at just after 5:45 a.m. a citizen called to report that a black angus steer got out of their trailer while they were near the Harvard Avenue exit of Interstate Five. The owner of the animal said he was trying to locate it and keep it from getting on the freeway. He believed it would need to be put down.
Eichenbusch said the steer made its way to the parking lot of RHS where it was dispatched. The owner of the steer was able to remove it and load it back in the trailer afterward. There were no students on campus at the time of the incident.
RPD later received calls reporting a large pool of blood on the ground near the Visitor’s Center on Southeast Spruce. It was determined that this was also from the steer, as the owner pulled to the side of the road in that area after leaving RHS.
Sergeant Brad O’Dell of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said that agency handled putting the steer down.
