WINSTON COMMUNITY TO LEARN ABOUT SCHOOL SAFETY

February 7, 2020 3:40 a.m.
The Winston-Dillard School District will host an informational meeting later this month to introduce parents and community members to new training the district will implement to improve school safety.
Superintendent Kevin Miller said the event will share details about the “Violent Intruder Safety and Response” training that students in the district will be receiving from their teachers. Miller said its part of the district’s continual efforts to prepare for the possibility of a “violent intruder” and to remain up to date on industry standards and appropriate responses to such an event.
Miller said a representative from Tactical Training Academy, a private firm contracted to provide the training, will give the presentation. In addition, those attending will be briefed on what the best response will be for them and how they can help minimize any confusion in the reunification with their student in the event of an emergency.
The meeting will be February 18th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the gym of Douglas High School. District officials and law enforcement personnel will be available to answer questions following the presentation.
