DEADLINE NEARS TO APPLY FOR SEAT ON SUTHERLIN COUNCIL

The deadline is approaching for those interested in applying for a vacant seat on the Sutherlin City Council.
Councilor Becky Wattles has resigned as she is moving out of the area.
Deputy City Recorder Melanie Masterfield said so far five people have applied for the position. They are:
*Chuck Brummel, a retired resident who is the Board Chair of the city’s budget committee.
*Brian Burke, who worked for Douglas County Ambulance Services for the last seven years. He is currently an instructor at Umpqua Community College.
*Deborah Burr, an eleven-year military veteran and a current employee of the Roseburg VA.
*Jeremy Cornis, a former history professor and current educator in Sutherlin.
*Debbie Hamilton, who worked for the City of Sutherlin for 25 years and has recently retired. She is currently a contracted employee for the City.
Masterfield said Hamilton would resign her position with the City, if she is chosen.
The deadline to apply is this Friday at 12:00 p.m. Monday night, February 10th, the council will make a selection and the person chosen will be sworn into office.
