February 3, 2020 3:30 a.m. (updated at 11:55 a.m.)
With the deadline to apply having passed on Friday, there are now four people that have said they want to fill a vacancy on the Roseburg City Council.
Well there were four people, but now there are three.
Councilor Tom Ryan’s resignation from his Ward 2 Position 2 seat, was accepted at the January 13th council meeting.
On Friday, Jeffrey Weller and Ashley Taylor both turned in an application. Weller is a self-employed Certified Public Accountant while Taylor is a Fiduciary Guardian and Deputy Director for Ashley Taylor LLC and Douglas CARES, according to city staff.  They joined Mike Baker and Sheila Cox, who both already filed. Baker works for the Oregon Department of Transportation and is a former member of the council. Cox retired in 2018 as the City Recorder for Roseburg.
This morning, Baker withdrew his application. According to staff, Baker said with new responsibilities at his job, it would be difficult to devote the time needed to being a council member, if he was chosen.
Councilors are expected to interview the candidates and make a selection at their February 10th meeting. The person chosen will finish Ryan’s term which runs through the end of 2022.
