Two people were jailed for methamphetamine and other charges on Thursday after allegedly providing false information to a deputy the day before.
Sergeant Brad O’Dell of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said on Wednesday night at 9:30 p.m. a deputy stopped a sedan on Highway 101 in the Reedsport area. O’Dell said the occupants of the vehicle were contacted and issued warnings for minor traffic violations. Following the stop, the deputy learned that the occupants had reportedly provided him with a false name of a male in the vehicle. The deputy was able to determine the true identity of the male and learned that he had an outstanding warrant out for his arrest.
On Thursday morning, the deputy saw the vehicle again in the 600 block of Winchester Avenue in Reedsport. Just after 2:15 a.m. the occupants were contacted and 46-year old Tito Noriega of North Bend was taken into custody on the warrant. Subsequently the deputy located 10 grams of suspected meth in the man’s possession, according to O’Dell.
The driver, 50-year old Michelle Brown, also of North Bend, was taken into custody for hindering prosecution. She was allegedly found to be in possession of 5.5 grams of meth and a large sum of money. Brown was also cited for unlawful delivery and possession of meth. She was taken to the Reedsport Municipal Jail.
Noriega was also charged for unlawful delivery and possession of meth, and for giving false information to police, along with the warrant. He went to the Reedsport Jail before being transferred to the Douglas County Jail where he was held without bail.
