A driver evaded capture during a high-speed police chase on Sunday, but the suspect’s vehicle was located east of Sutherlin.
Captain Kurt Sorenson of the Sutherlin Police told News Radio 1240 KQEN that just after 2:00 p.m. officers from SPD attempted to stop a sedan for a traffic violation in the area of St John’s Street and Central Avenue. The vehicle continued east on Central and a pursuit began. Sorenson said speeds during the chase reached nearly 100 miles per hour. After the suspect vehicle turned up Bonanza Mine Road from Nonpareil, the pursuit was terminated.
Sorenson said sedan was later found parked on Bonanza Mine Road, which is a dead- end road. Troopers from Oregon State Police, deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, and officers from the Roseburg Police, all responded to assist SPD in the search, but the driver was not located.
No further details in the case have been released.
