ROSEBURG MAN DIED IN CALIFORNIA HIT AND RUN ACCIDENT

A Roseburg man died in a northern California hit and run accident on Thursday.
A press release from the California Highway Patrol said at about 9:30 p.m. a 37-year old pedestrian was hit by an unknown vehicle while walking southbound along US Highway 101 in the Smith River area, approximately 14 miles north of Crescent City.
The release said the vehicle fled southbound on the highway.
The pedestrian was transported to Sutter Coast Hospital and was later life flighted to Mercy Medical Center, where he died of his injuries, according to the release.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation and the name of the victim has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin. Information regarding the vehicle has also not been released due to the ongoing investigation.
