The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Southern Oregon Cascades and Siskiyou Mountains including Crater Lake, and Diamond Lake, starting Friday night.
Forecasters in Medford said 5 to 9 inches of snow is expected with wind gusts of 40 to 50 miles per hour possible.
The advisory area includes highways 138, 230, and 62 north of Prospect among others.
Forecasters said heavy snow and windy conditions will make travel difficult. Snowfall rates of one inch per hour at times and blowing snow will reduce visibility to one quarter of a mile or less. Drivers should slow down and allow extra time to reach their destinations. Motorists should carry tire chains.
Travelers should go to www.tripcheck.com to check the latest road conditions before leaving on their trip.
The Advisory is in effect from 11:00 p.m. Friday to 8:00 a.m. Saturday.
