A transient was jailed for attempting to elude police and other charges on Friday.
A report from the Winston Police said at 12:30 a.m. an officer observed a sedan driven by Richard Bowman commit a traffic violation near the corner of Main and Sherry. The officer activated their overhead lights but the suspect vehicle accelerated, causing the rear wheels to spin. The vehicle headed towards a parking lot exit at about 40 miles per hour where it was met and blocked in by another Winston officer.
The report said the vehicle came to an abrupt stop at which time Bowman refused commands. He eventually decided to comply and was taken into custody. Winston Police K9 Buster was deployed and alerted on the vehicle. Several drug related items were allegedly found. Bowman was charged with attempting to elude in a vehicle, interfering with a police officer, and for possession of drug paraphernalia.
No one was injured. Bowman was released from custody later that day.
