Officers with the Roseburg Police Department are continuing additional DUII enforcement patrols through Friday.
Sergeant Jeff Eichenbusch said the campaign is focused on reminding all drivers about the dangers of drinking and driving during a time when additional holiday festivities are still taking place.
According to the National Traffic Safety Administration, over 37,000 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes in 2017. 29% of those fatalities occurred in crashes during which a driver had a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit of .08. 885 people nationwide lost their lives in crashes involving a drunk driver during the month of December 2017 alone. The holidays are extra dangerous as more drivers are out on the road.
The increased patrols are made possible due to a grant from the Oregon Department of Transportation and Oregon Impact.
