A Wilbur man was arrested by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office after allegedly assaulting a homeowner and resisting arrest on Thursday.
Sergeant Brad O’Dell said at about 2:30 a.m. deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 1,000 block of Shadow Ranch Lane following a report that there was a suspicious man outside the home.
O’Dell said deputies spotted 40-year old Matthew Kelm looking through the trunk of a vehicle parked at the residence. Kelm initially told the deputy that it was his home, but when the homeowner came outside, Kelm reportedly pushed the resident down and attempted to flee.
O’Dell said after a short foot pursuit Kelm was apprehended. He attempted to resist but was ultimately taken into custody.
Kelm was jailed on a host of charges including unlawful entry into a vehicle, second degree counts of theft and criminal mischief, resisting arrest, 4th degree assault, and for a warrant. Bail was set at $35,000.
