The Douglas County Museum of Natural and Cultural History has received an award for placing number 2 in the 100 Top 5 Best Fan-Favorite Destinations in Oregon for 2020.
A release from the Board of Commissioners said the local museum moved up from eighth place in 2019. The winners were chosen based on the number of 4 and 5-star reviews received this year.
Portland based media company MEDIAmerica, publishers of Oregon Business magazine and the well-known 100 Best Companies to Work for in Oregon survey, announced the winners of the fourth annual 100 Best Fan-Favorite Destinations in Oregon awards, earlier this week.
The release said this year researchers studied over 95,000 reviews, a 43% increase over last year’s reviews, on the most widely used online review sites Google, TripAdvisor and Yelp. Scores were tallied and combined to determine the level of travelers’ overall satisfaction. The scores were then ranked to create the 100 Best-Fan Favorites Destinations list.
The top 100 destinations will again be charted on a map for visitors and residents to use as a guide for traveling the state. A total of 75,000 statewide maps will be distributed next year at most of the state’s entry points and visitor centers.
Commissioner Tom Kress said the award is a tribute “to our dedicated staff, as well as our volunteers and foundation members who work hard to create an engaging and unique museum experience for our citizens and visitors alike”.
