A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Crater Lake, Diamond Lake and all of the south-central Oregon Cascades above 5,000 feet starting late Thursday afternoon.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service said moderate to heavy snow is forecast above 5,000 feet with 6 to 10 inches expected. Higher amounts of up to 12 inches are expected above 6,000 feet on Thursday with an additional 12 inches possible from Thursday night into Friday afternoon. Winds gusting 30 to 45 miles per hour over exposed areas Thursday evening are in the forecast as well.
The Advisory also applies to portions of Highways 62, 138, 230 and 232 above 5,000 feet.
Travel could be difficult with snow levels lowering to around 4,500 feet Thursday night then down to 4,000 feet on Friday. Forecasters said drivers should slow down and allow extra time to reach their destination at higher elevations. Carry tire chains and be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities.
The Advisory runs from 4:00 p.m. Thursday to 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
