Two victims from a Tuesday accident remain hospitalized but their condition is improving.
Tuesday afternoon just after 4:45 p.m. deputies and medical personnel responded to a two-vehicle wreck at the corner of Garden Valley Road and Melrose Road. The DCSO report said that a sedan driven by 59-year old Roseburg resident Mary O’Connell had attempted to make a left-hand turn from Garden Valley Road onto Melrose Road. The report said her vehicle pulled into the path of a Jeep driven by 20-year old Luis Sanchez of Roseburg. Sanchez and his passenger, 19-year old Avry Hansen, also of Roseburg, were both taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend in Springfield after initially going to Mercy Medical Center.
Sanchez was initially listed in critical condition while Hansen was listed in serious condition. As of Friday afternoon, Sanchez had been upgraded to fair condition while Hansen was in good condition, according to a hospital spokesperson.
O’Connell was taken to Mercy for evaluation.
The report said that alcohol did not appear to be a contributing factor in the accident.
