November 26, 2019 4:00 a.m.
A Sutherlin man died in a single vehicle crash on Monday night.
Sergeant Brad O’Dell of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said just after 9:00 p.m. deputies and medical personnel responded to the wreck in the 9300 block of Nonpareil Road east of Sutherlin. O’Dell said first responders found a pickup approximately 20 feet down an embankment which had hit a tree head-on. The driver, 54-year old Raymond Funk, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
O’Dell said the initial investigation indicates that Funk had been traveling eastbound when his vehicle left the roadway for an unknown reason. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, according to the report.
Nonpareil Road was closed for around 2 hours, following the accident.
Sutherlin Police was assisted by multiple agencies.
