A Shady Cove man was arrested on Tuesday after the body of one of his roommates was found in Douglas County.
A Jackson County Sheriff’s Office release said detectives allege that 21-year old Shayne Wayman killed 20-year old Destiny Finch in their home, and then left her remains in a wooded area north of Trail. On Monday night, dispatch received a call from a family member reporting that Finch was missing from her home in Shady Cove. Sergeant Julie Denney said deputies responded and found evidence that an assault had occurred at that location.
Denney said deputies learned that Finch and Wayman had an argument earlier in the day. Neither were present at the residence at the time of the missing person’s report. Finch and her fiancé lived together at the home along with Wayman and another man.
Detectives activated the Major Assault and Death Investigation Unit Monday evening. On Tuesday morning, detectives located Wayman walking along Highway 62. He was detained without incident. Moments later, JCSO detectives found Wayman’s vehicle parked along Highway 62 near the Prospect Ranger Station. Denney said Finch’s remains were found just before 12:00 p.m. Tuesday in a wooded area near Highway 227, less than one mile inside Douglas County. After consulting with authorities in Douglas County, Jackson County investigators continued as the lead agency for the investigation.
JCSO detectives charged Wayman with murder, first degree assault, second degree abuse of a corpse, and for unlawful use of a weapon. The investigation is ongoing.
