ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT ARRESTED IN DOUGLAS COUNTY

November 6, 2019 3:35 a.m.
An armed robbery suspect was arrested in Douglas County but another man is still outstanding after a home invasion robbery in Jackson County on Saturday morning.
Sergeant Julie Denney of Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said the incident began at a property associated with a marijuana grow near Eagle Point.
At about 3:30 a.m. dispatch received a 911 call from a resident who reported that she and a man in the home were handcuffed and had been robbed by two armed men wearing masks. The resident said the suspects fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle, which was identified as a white 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan with Oregon license plate number 167LRH.
Denny said deputies and officers from nearby agencies attempted to locate the vehicle. An officer from the Central Point Police Department spotted the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. The car then fled at a high rate of speed towards Central Point and headed north on Interstate Five. The Volkswagen was apparently traveling with a white 2012 BMW that also sped north on the freeway.
Denny said officers lost sight of the vehicle around Gold Hill. A Grants Pass Department of Public Safety officer located the BMW on the freeway. A JCSO deputy caught up to the vehicle and continued chasing it through Josephine and Douglas County.
Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office assumed the pursuit and spike strips were successfully deployed. The vehicle slowed down but did not stop. The driver then crashed about two miles south of the Winston exit, and fled on foot. Deputies and personnel from Oregon State Police searched the area but did not locate the suspect.
Saturday night at about 6:45 p.m. deputies located the driver and took him into custody. Denny said he had apparently hidden for hours before approaching a resident to ask him to help. That resident was aware of the earlier pursuit and crash and immediately alerted deputies. 36-year old Nathan Perkins of Portland was recognized as the driver who fled the scene after the pursuit.
A JCSO deputy responded to take custody of Perkins and transport him to the Jackson County Jail following medical clearance. Perkins was initially detained on two felony probation violation detention warrants and a charge of driving while suspended or revoked. He is being held without bail. Denny said multiple charges have since been added that are related to the incident.
Detectives are still trying to track down the stolen Volkswagen and that suspect as well as any other information about the robbery. Anyone with information is asked to call the JCSO tip line at 541-770-8333.
