FUTURE FIRST CITIZEN SCHOLARSHIP RETURNS TO RHS

November 5, 2019 10:25 a.m.
The Roseburg High School Foundation Board has announced the return of the Future First Citizen Scholarship Award after a one-year hiatus.
Foundation President Brian Prawitz said the award will be offered to a Roseburg High senior at the RHS Foundation Scholarship Banquet in March. The award has recognized five top seniors as future leaders, volunteers, supporters, and role models who will make a difference in their community, according to the release.
The Future First Citizen recognition and scholarship award was initiated for Roseburg High School seniors approximately 20 years ago. Prawitz said it was originally designed and financially supported by a combination of local businesses and individuals, many of whom are supporting the return of the award with a three-year commitment.
Prawitz said the presentation for the Future First Citizen and the four semifinal scholarship winners was linked with the Chamber of Commerce annual business meeting and First Citizen awards banquet. Due to several factors, the award did not occur in 2019.
Prawitz said the RHS Foundation Board saw how important the program had become to RHS and the community, and recognized the way the Future First Citizen concept aligned with the Foundation mission. Recently the RHS Foundation board unanimously supported taking on the facilitation and celebration of this award with the support of generous donors in the community, according to the release.
Prawitz said “this award will also rejuvenate our annual celebration and fundraising event with the goal of increasing recognition for our most deserving students and growing our scholarships in 2020 and into the future”.
Prawitz told News Radio 1240 KQEN that the amount of the financial awards is not yet known. He said it depends on how many total donors are obtained. He told KQEN that one winner and four semi-finalists will all be rewarded with scholarships.
