A local church has been named a Blue Zones Approved faith-based organization.
A release from Blue Zones Project Umpqua said Umpqua Unitarian Universalist Congregation was given the honor to recognize its commitment to the well-being of its members and the community. The milestone was celebrated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sunday.
To become approved, the church has taken a number of steps:
*Providing healthy options at Sunday socials after the service
*Having a free, ongoing program of classes designed to educate to bring the community together.
*Hosting wellness classes and lectures on Blue Zones and longevity.
*Having members participate in wellness events through Blue Zones Project.
UUUC Events Coordinator Lillene Fifield said the church becoming Blue Zones approved will play a huge part in the church’s culture.
