BALLOTS BEING MAILED OUT FOR SPECIAL ELECTION

October 17, 2019 3:45 a.m.
Ballots are being mailed for a Special Election involving only those registered voters in the Tenmile Rural Fire District and in the City of Reedsport.
Information from the office of Douglas County Clerk Daniel Loomis said voters in the Tenmile RFD will consider a local option tax to pay for having a full time Fire Chief/Paramedic. If approved, the district will impose a tax of 75 cents per $1,000 of assessed value for five years, beginning in the 2020/2021 fiscal year. The measure may cause property taxes to increase by more than three percent.
In Reedsport, voters will decide on a proposed amendment to the City Charter. If approved, it would remove the restriction on utility rate adjustments not exceeding 3 percent annually.
For this Special Election drop-boxes are available at Winston City Hall, the Douglas County Annex in Reedsport, and the parking lot just east of the Roseburg Public Library. Ballots can also be taken to the Clerk’s Office in room 124 of the courthouse. Ballots can be mailed as well. To be counted, all ballots must be returned by 8:00 p.m. on November 5th.
