TRANSPORTATION DISTRICT GETS NEW NAME

October 15, 2019 4:10 a.m.
The Douglas County Transportation District has a new name and is now known as the Umpqua Public Transportation District.
Monday night district board members met to consider making the change. Since it took over operations of the transportation program from Douglas County this past summer and became a separate entity, Board Chair Mike Baker said there has been confusion about the name. He told the group that many people still think its part of County government. At a prior meeting the idea of what the new name should be came about. Baker said a logo change would eventually be needed along with a change in branding.
The resolution to make the name change passed on a unanimous vote.
The next board meeting will be held a week early on November 4th due to the regular meeting date falling on Veteran’s Day.
