Three groups of health care providers in Oregon have come out in support of Governor Brown’s ban on flavored vaping products.
On Friday, a release from the Oregon Medical Association, the Oregon Nursing Association and the Oregon Association of Hospitals and Health Systems said the groups “express strong support for Governor Kate Brown’s call for a temporary ban on flavored e-cigarette products in Oregon”.
The release said liquid flavors such as bubble gum, fruit and mint appeal to kids, and limiting access “is an important step in preventing youth use and stopping a possible lifelong addiction”. Health care providers across the state are united on the temporary ban according to the release, and the groups continue to advocate for raising the price of tobacco products and electronic cigarettes as “the next important step to deter tobacco and nicotine use among Oregonians of all ages”.
The release said medical professionals have known for some time that vaping products, particularly those that are flavored, threaten to increase the number of young people that are addicted to nicotine. The release called the current situation is a public health crisis that has been decades in the making.
