Students from Roseburg Public Schools and Glide Public Schools will join kids from around the country to celebrate National Walk and Bike to School Day on October 2nd.
Blue Zones Project Umpqua is organizing the event in support of Safe Routes to School opportunities.
Along with Glide schools, Roseburg Schools participating include Eastwood, Fir Grove, Fullerton IV, Green and Melrose. The event will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. with times varying by school.
A release from Blue Zones said the day is designed to raise awareness of the need to create safer routes for bicycling and walking and emphasizes the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, reducing traffic congestion and concern for the environment.
The release said Winchester Elementary is unable to participate due to the construction on Old Highway 99 but will have it’s annual jogathon later in the month.
