The City of Roseburg is becoming a Blue Zones Approved Worksite.
A release from the City and from Blue Zones said over a year ago, the City embarked on a journey to evaluate and look at, how to better support staff well-being. The release said the administration, including then City Manager Lance Colley, were motivated by what they saw happening with the Blue Zones Project across the community. After working diligently to apply a number of best practices, the City will be recognized for the efforts made. The milestone will be celebrated in front of City Hall on the corner of Douglas Avenue and Jackson Street on Thursday September 19th at 10:30 a.m. Blue Zones Project Umpqua Organization Lead John Dimof and Mayor Larry Rich will lead a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
City Manager Nikki Messenger said “The City of Roseburg and employees at City Hall are excited to become a Blue Zones approved worksite”. She said the goals of Blue Zones Project fit in well with the work being done by the City’s Wellness Committee and by the employees.
The release said, to reach approval, the City implemented evidence-based best-practices from around the country that focus on moving more, eating better, connecting socially and finding purpose. The City Wellness Program helped facilitate the efforts to guide the process of becoming certified. The program promotes health, activity and well-being by providing multiple employee and family events and activities, step challenges, health information, health screenings, charitable opportunities, classes and more throughout the year.
