Overnight crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association and local fire departments located 7 additional fires on DFPA protected lands.
Kyle Reed from DFPA said that means there were a total of 11 fires from Thursday’s lightning storms as of mid-morning on Friday.
*The Big Tom Folley Fire is located about 5 miles northeast of Elkton and is estimated to be 3 acres in size, burning in heavy standing and storm damaged timber. Crews are engaged on the fire and additional resources will be assisting with the blaze.
*The Slide Creek Fire is 9 miles northeast of Myrtle Creek. The fire is staffed and is approximately 1/10th of an acre in size.
*The Milepost 3 Fire is 3 miles east of Myrtle Creek, off of South Myrtle Road. The fire is estimated to be 1/2 acre. One engine is on the scene and additional resources are being added to deal with the fire.
*The South Deer Creek Fire is 8 miles southeast of Roseburg and was a single lightning struck tree on fire. The fire is being mopped up.
*The Dawson Road Fire is about 3 miles southeast of Roseburg. It is 1/10th of an acre. Crews from DFPA and Douglas County Fire District No. 2 worked on the fire overnight and are monitoring it Friday.
*The Little River Fire is 9 miles east of Glide. It is 1/10th of an acre.
*The Oak Hill Road Fire is 5 miles southwest of Sutherlin. Crews from DFPA and from the Sutherlin Fire Department are on the scene of the fire, which is about 1/100th of an acre.
Reed said its expected that additional lightning caused fires will be located. Additional crews and engines from neighboring districts and contractors have been ordered to help with the lightning caused fires.
