3 ARRESTED FOLLOWING BURGLARY/POLICE CHASE

September 6, 2019 4:40 a.m.
3 people were arrested following a burglary in Oakland and a lengthy police chase that ended in Roseburg on Thursday.
Captain Kurt Sorenson of the Sutherlin Police said just after 2:00 p.m. officers were sent to a home in the 200 block of Northeast Cypress, following a report that a burglary was in progress. Sorenson said a neighbor indicated that the males were carrying items from the home and getting into a white Chevrolet Impala. The neighbor reported that the males did not belong at the residence.
A few minutes later an officer saw the vehicle heading south on Interstate 5 near the main Sutherlin exit. Officers tried to stop the vehicle, but it attempted to elude and took the Winchester exit and headed west on Del Rio Road. The car then turned onto Garden Valley and proceeded towards Roseburg. Sorenson said the occupants of the vehicle began throwing items out of the car. Those items were believed to have been taken from the residence and they were later recovered.
The vehicle turned north onto Stewart Parkway and then headed into the parking lot of Albertsons. All 3 occupants then fled the vehicle on foot.
Officers from Sutherlin Police, Oregon State Police, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Roseburg Police searched for the suspects and ultimately apprehended all of them. Police scanner reports indicated that some nearby businesses went into lockdown or partial lockdown while the search for the 3 males was underway.
20-year old Andrew Armenta of Myrtle Creek, 19-year old Edward Tellez of Riddle and a 16-year old male juvenile from Sutherlin were taken into custody on first degree counts of burglary and theft. Armenta was also charged with attempting to elude police. Armenta was detained on $350,00 bail while Tellez was held on $300,000 bail. The 16-year old was taken to the Douglas County Juvenile Department.
