A 30-year old driver lost control of his vehicle and then crashed Saturday night along Interstate Five near the Boomer Hill exit.
A report from Oregon State Police said just after 7:30 p.m. the northbound vehicle exited the freeway and traveled down a short frontage road before attempting to re-enter the freeway. The report said the SUV appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed on the frontage road prior to the on-ramp. The vehicle nearly struck an ODOT guardrail on the right shoulder of the on-ramp before skidding sideways on the on-ramp. The vehicle then traveled across both northbound lanes of travel and struck the center concrete barrier.
The report said the driver showed signs and symptoms of impairment. He was arrested for DUII alcohol, reckless driving and reckless endangering. At Douglas County Corrections he reportedly provided breath samples that showed a blood alcohol content of .14, which is nearly 2 times the legal limit. The man was released from custody later that night.
