Crews with the Camas Valley Volunteer Fire District stopped a natural cover fire at approximately one acre on Friday afternoon.
A CYVFD post said just after 1:00 p.m. firefighters were dispatched to the fire in the area of Westside Road and Upper Camas Road in Camas Valley. First responders arrived on scene to find a moderately spreading grass fire extending into nearby timber. Crews quickly stopped the forward spread of the fire and began mop-up operations to extinguish remaining hot spots and prevent further spread.
The cause of the fire was determined to be a debris burn pile that had escaped containment. Camas Valley Fire responded with two brush trucks staffed by a total of five volunteer firefighters. Tenmile Rural Fire District provided mutual aid assistance.
The agency said even though fire season has officially ended, dry conditions still exist and outdoor burning can quickly become dangerous. Residents are urged to use extreme caution when burning debris, maintain adequate clearance around burn piles, have water and firefighting tools readily available, and never leave a fire unattended.
