Oregonians are choosing who will be the Governor for the next four years. The race between incumbent Democrat Tina Kotek and Republican State Senator Christine Drazen looks to be close, according to observers. Drazen is hoping to be the state’s first Republican Governor in four decades, while Kotek seeks to retain her seat.
In the Fourth Congressional District, incumbent Democrat Val Hoyle is facing a challenge from Republican Monique DeSpain, mirroring the race when the two faced off two years ago. In the Second District, incumbent Republican Cliff Bentz is fending off a challenge from Democrat Chris Beck.
First District State Representative Republican Court Boice is facing off against Democrat Bret Cecil. Second District State Representative Virgil Osborne and Fourth District State Representative Alek Skarlatos are unopposed.
In Douglas County, incumbent County Commissioner Chris Boice is being challenged by Roseburg School Board Director Steve Hammerson for the non-partisan position.
For the first time in over a quarter century, Roseburg will elect a new mayor as long-time incumbent Larry Rich decided not to seek another term. David Bolhuis, Steve Loosely and Max Smoot are all seeking the volunteer position. Samuel Denney and Matt Kowal are both running for the Ward 3 city council seat while in Ward 4 incumbent Ruth Smith is being challenged by Tiffany Fouse. Ward 1 and 2 races have only one candidate, as R.J. Mills and Mike Baker have no opposition. There are races for mayor and city council in other Douglas County cities as well.
Voters in Sutherlin will decide whether to repeal a citywide ban on marijuana dispensaries while a companion measure would impose a 3 percent tax on retail marijuana sales. Reedsport voters will decide whether to ban the establishment of psilocybin related businesses. In the Glide School District, patrons are being asked to approve a bond measure to improve schools and safety capacity. Passage would mean the district would receive a matching state grant.
