A SUV and trailer jackknifed on Monday afternoon, leading to a big traffic backup on Interstate 5 southbound in the Roberts Mountain area.
An Oregon State Police report said at 1:35 p.m. a trooper was dispatched to the accident about nine miles south of Roseburg near milepost 116. The driver was apparently going too fast for the hill she was on and attempted to slow down. In doing so, her vehicle swerved into the left-hand lane, causing the driver to overcorrect and the vehicle to go into the barrier on the right-hand side. The driver then moved the vehicle to the left and braked hard, which caused the vehicle and trailer to jackknife. The trailer then tipped onto its left-hand side.
The crash blocked one lane of the freeway for an extended time before both vehicles could be towed away. The driver, an Arizona woman, was not injured. There was damage to the freeway’s cement barrier.
