On Friday, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Oregon Department of Agriculture announced that razor clam harvesting is now closed statewide.
An ODFW release said recent razor clam samples indicate levels of domoic acid, a marine biotoxin, are above the safety threshold. This includes the popular razor clam harvesting area of Clatsop Beach.
Mussel harvesting has reopened on the southern coast as domoic acid levels tested below the alert level. Harvesting of mussels is now open coastwide.
People should always call the Shellfish Safety Hotline at 1-800-448-2474 before heading out to harvest any shellfish.
