Diamond Lake and Tiller Ranger districts in the Umpqua National Forest are planning prescribed fires this fall season.

A UNF release said officials estimate this work will occur between this Friday and October 19th as conditions allow. Certified prescribed fire specialists use prescribed fires to help remove excess vegetation, reduce wildfire risk, improve habitat and restore fire-adapted ecosystems.

In the Diamond Lake Ranger District, underburning is planned for these areas:

*Cold Spring Unit 32/33 – National Forest Service Road 3401-200, Upper Thorn Prairie

*Cold Spring 121, NFSR 3401-600, Thorn Prairie

In the Tiller Ranger District, underburning is planned in Unit 710, Long Prairie – along NFSR 3201-300, west of Threehorn Campground. Closed areas include:

*At the junction of NFSR 32-300

*At the junction of NFSR 600-620

*At the junction of NFSR 300-330 – Diamond Rock

*And at the junction of NSFR 1616-205
