A Roseburg man died in a single vehicle crash in the Canyonville area on Tuesday.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report released on Friday morning, said on shortly before 8:00 p.m. dispatchers received information that there had been a wreck in the 7000 block of Tiller Trail Highway outside of Canyonville.

Deputies arrived to locate an older pickup which had left the roadway and struck a tree. Fire and EMS personnel at the scene determined that the sole occupant, 56-year-old Derek Edward Knnuttila, was deceased at the scene.

Alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor in the crash.

The Douglas County Medical Examiner’s Office was notified along with next of kin.

DCSO was assisted at the scene by Days Creek Rural Fire Department, Canyonville South Umpqua Fire Department, Riddle Fire Protection District and Umpqua Valley Ambulance.
