The YMCA of Douglas County is welcoming youth and families back this fall with a variety of programs designed to keep kids active, build skills and create opportunities to connect.

A YMCA release said the fall offer includes youth soccer for ages 3 through grade 2, monthly homeschool P.E. for ages 5 through 17, and youth strength and conditioning with individual and small-group training for ages 7 to 16. These programs are open to both members and non-members. Registration for youth soccer is open through September 13.

Teens can also take advantage of the Y’s youth membership for a great and safe place to visit after school. Membership is available for ages 13 through 18 for $35 per month with no joining fee, providing access to the facility, youth space, pools, fitness equipment, classes and more.

The release said the Y is also offering opportunities beyond fitness. Registration is open for the Y’s Teen Workforce Development program beginning October 7th for ages 14 to 18. The program helps teens build resumes, practice interviewing, meet local employers and prepare for their first job. Families can also participate in family STEAM Saturday on October 3rd, featuring hands-on science, technology, engineering, art and math activities in partnership with the Umpqua Valley STEAM Hub.

Older teens interested in building valuable job and leadership skills can explore lifeguard certification beginning at age 15 and swim instructor training starting at age 16. Registration is open for these courses.
