Crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association dealt with two fires on Sunday.

A DFPA release said at 1:40 a.m. firefighters responded to a smoke investigation near the intersection of Tyee Access Road and Tyee Road in the Umpqua area.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered two burning slash piles with fire spreading into surrounding vegetation. The fire, named the Bottle Creek Fire, was estimated to be approximately one acre in size. DFPA Public Information Officer Rachel Pope said after several hours of firefighting efforts, crews successfully lined and plumbed the fire perimeter and transitioned into mop-up operations. Pope said crews will continue to work on mop-up in the area until the fire can be successfully turned over to patrol status.

DFPA resources assigned to the incident include three engines, two squads, a ten-person crew, a dozer, overhead command staff and a water tender. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No homes or structures were threatened by the Bottle Creek Fire. DFPA was assisted by Central Douglas Fire & Rescue.

Sunday just after 2:00 p.m. crews from DFPA and other agencies responded to a reported natural cover fire near the 10000 block of Lookingglass Road near Roseburg.

Pope said upon arrival, firefighters found a grass fire burning across approximately one-quarter of an acre. Crews took immediate action and stopped the forward spread of the fire, which was named the Lookingglass Creek Fire.

DFPA resources assigned to the incident included four engines and overhead command staff. Firefighters completed mop-up operations and cleared the scene at approximately 4:10 p.m. The fire is now in patrol status.  No homes or structures were threatened by the fire. The cause of the Lookingglass Creek Fire remains under investigation.
