Across the region, local nonprofit organizations are expanding STEM and educational opportunities for teachers, students and their communities, and more. To support these efforts, the Pacific Power Foundation has awarded over $340,000 in grants to 93 organizations across Oregon, Washington and California.

A release from the utility said the grants support and array of projects that inspire career readiness, improve literacy and empower skill development.

Pacific Power President and Foundation Director Ryan Flynn said, “When we invest in organizations that provide STEM and educational opportunities, we’re investing in the future of our communities”. Flynn said, “These programs provide meaningful hands-on experiences that can change a student’s trajectory”.

The Pacific Power Foundation’s Education and STEM grant cycle is just one of several funding opportunities throughout the year. In Douglas County, three non-profit organizations received a grant:

*Glide Revitalization was given $7,500 to provide essential school supplies for K-12 students at no cost

*Umpqua Valley Farm to School received $7,500 for their “A Garden for Everyone” program.

*Winston Area Community Partnership is getting $5,000 for their “Please Be Seated” program.
