Roseburg Police have made an arrest following a fatal stabbing near downtown early Wednesday morning.
Public Information Officer Sergeant Daniel Allen said just after 1:40 a.m. officers from RPD and deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 200 block of Southeast Pine Street, an area known as The Point, regarding the stabbing. Allen said when law enforcement arrived, they found 40-year-old Patrick Shane Belleci bleeding profusely from a severe stab wound. Belleci was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center by Umpqua Valley Ambulance, where he was declared deceased.
The Douglas County Major Crimes Team was activated.
30-year-old Tyler Loyd Whitehead was developed as a suspect in the case. Whitehead fled the scene but later turned himself in to law enforcement in the area of Northeast Winchester Street and Northeast Nash Street in Roseburg. Whitehead was charged with second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon and menacing. He was detained without bail.
RPD thanked DCSO, Oregon State Police, Douglas County District Attorney’s Office, Roseburg Fire Department, and Umpqua Valley Ambulance for their assistance.
Allen said this is an ongoing investigation, and no further details are being released at this time.
