Crews with Central Douglas Fire & Rescue quickly knocked down a structure fire on Tuesday afternoon.

Battalion Chief Nick Wecks said firefighters were dispatched to the incident just before 12:40 p.m. Wecks said the fire was at a home off Fisher Road in the Garden Valley area which had vehicles still in the driveway. While responding, crews were notified that flames were coming from the front window of the garage and that an elderly couple lived there. An off-duty firefighter advised crews to use the second River Bend Road entrance, due to a downed power line which was in the driveway. He also reported a working garage fire extending into the house, and that it was unknown if anyone was home.

Wecks said initial crews arrived at the single-story residence, reported a working fire, established command, and reported the power lines being down directly in front of the home. Crews made a quick initial fire attack, knocking down the fire within two minutes of arriving on the scene. Firefighters performed a primary search and found that no one was in the residence. No injuries were reported by firefighters working on the scene.

CDF&R and the City of Roseburg Fire Department responded to the incident with 4 pieces of equipment and 4 command units, for a total of 20 paid and volunteer personnel. Wecks said due to the extensive fire damage, crews could not determine the cause of the fire. Pacific Power, Avista Gas and the American Red Cross assisted with the incident.
