Conditions are expected to heat up in the Umpqua Valley beginning on Thursday.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that Wednesday should see normal seasonal conditions with highs in the mid 70’s. Beginning Thursday, an upper ridge offshore will allow afternoon highs to warm to the low to mid 80’s for two days, before moving to the upper 80’s by Saturday.
Forecasters said the upper ridge will move on shore for at least Sunday and Monday. This will lead to highs in the mid to upper 90s, with some locations in the region possibly hitting 100 degrees. That means temperatures will be at least 20 degrees above normal for this time of year. Forecasters said heat advisories could be issued by the National Weather Service. Next Tuesday should be in the low 90’s before gradual cooling begins.
The mercury reached 68 degrees on Tuesday at the Roseburg Regional Airport. That is several degrees below the normal high for this week in June.
