DFPA CREWS DEAL WITH THREE FIRES TUESDAY, FIVE SINCE FIRE SEASON BEGAN

June 3, 2026 10:40 a.m.

Crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association dealt with three fires on Tuesday, and a total of five fires since fire season began last Saturday.

Public Information Officer Rachel Pope said Tuesday afternoon at approximately 2:45 p.m. crews from DFPA, Central Douglas Fire & Rescue and Lookingglass Rural Fire District were dispatched to a reported natural cover fire near the 10500 block of Old Highway 99 South in the Myrtle Creek area. Pope said upon arrival, crews found a half-acre grass and bark mulch fire. The Pheasant Creek Fire was quickly extinguished and mopped up.

Pope said at approximately 4:45 p.m. crews from DFPA, Central Douglas Fire & Rescue and Lookingglass Rural Fire District were dispatched to a reported grass fire near the 600 block of Longhorn Lane in Roseburg. Crews found a fully involved vehicle fire in a hayfield. The vehicle and a half-acre grass fire was quickly extinguished. While engaged in suppression efforts on the Longhorn Lane Fire, the on scene DFPA incident commander observed a small smoke column near the ridgeline of the nearby Callahan Mountains.

Pope said crews then responded to a confirmed quarter-acre fire near Callahan Road. The fire’s forward spread was quickly stopped, hand-lined, and 95 percent mopped up before crews left the incident for the night. Mop-up operations continue. Minimal smoke may remain visible in the area as firefighters’ complete suppression efforts.

Small fires were reported and dealt with on Saturday and Sunday in the Canyonville and Myrtle Creek areas.

Pope said DFPA crews have responded to an estimated 15 illegal burns throughout the district since Saturday. Pope said this serves an important reminder that fire season is in effect, debris burning is restricted, and increased caution with outdoor activities is critical to help prevent human-caused wildfires. As conditions continue to dry and fire danger increases, fire season restrictions are in place to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect lives, property and natural resources.
