Crews with Central Douglas Fire & Rescue dealt with a balcony fire on Sunday.

Battalion Chief Mark Hernandez said just after 11:50 a.m. crews were dispatched to the fire on the second-story balcony of an apartment complex in the 200 block of Gregory Drive in Winston. Hernandez said the occupant of the apartment heard his unit’s smoke alarms going off and smelled smoke. Residents of the apartment complex used several fire extinguishers to control the fire.

Initial fire crews on the scene found light smoke coming from the second-story balcony. Crews extended hose line and extinguished remaining hot spots. Hernandez said the fire was contained to the exterior structure on the balcony. No injuries were reported.

CDF&R responded to the fire with 4 engines and 1 command unit. Crews were assisted by Avista Gas and Pacific Power.
