Roseburg Police jailed a man for a reported menacing incident on Monday morning.

An RPD report said at approximately 7:15 a.m. officers responded to the 2500 block of West Bradford Avenue after a victim said that 43-year-old Wesley Thompson was outside of the home attempting to force entry by hitting the front door with a large wooden post.  Thompson allegedly kicked the front door repeatedly screaming that he was going to kill the occupants inside and accusing them of holding a family member hostage.

During this time, a second victim braced himself against the door, believing that Thompson was going to make entry, while the other family members sheltered in the garage. At one point, the second victim opened the front door, thinking the suspect was attempting to go to a different home next. When he opened the door, Thompson reportedly grabbed a rock and threw it at the victim, striking him in the arm and shattering a glass candle inside the residence.

Officers contacted Thompson, who went inside his nearby home and refused to come out. After about ninety minutes, Thompson exited his residence through a back door, where officers detained him without incident. He was transported to corrections. Thompson was charged with five counts of menacing, attempted first-degree burglary, unlawful use of a weapon, harassment, second-degree counts of criminal mischief and disorderly conduct and for parole violation. Thompson was detained without bail.
