Conditions look favorable for ignitions to begin Thursday on the Long Prairie Unit 710 prescribed burn.
An Umpqua National Forest release said pending all approvals and weather conditions, the 112-acre prescribed fire will take place on the Tiller Ranger District along National Forest Service Road 3201-300, west of Threehorn Campground.
Officials said the prescribed burn will help protect local communities, infrastructure, and natural resources by reducing fuel loading from harvest activities, assisting in the return of historical fire to the area and improving the health and resiliency of the timber stand.
The Forest Service is closely coordinating with the Douglas Forest Protective Association, Oregon Department of Forestry, the Tiller Volunteer Fire Department, and the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians on the prescribed burn.
