A Yoncalla man was jailed after evading capture on Wednesday night.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said that evening at approximately 8:50 p.m. dispatch received several calls regarding a driving complaint in the area of Applegate Avenue and Alder Street in Yoncalla. A deputy located the large SUV turning onto Applegate from Alder Street. Once the driver saw the deputy, he immediately put the vehicle in reverse and accelerated backward towards a residence in the 400 block of Alder Street.

The driver, later identified as 20-year-old Joshua Cordova, jumped out of his vehicle and started running. The deputy chased the suspect to the front porch of a residence, where the suspect slammed the door shut and locked the deadbolt. Several people later identified as Cordova’s family walked to the home from a nearby establishment and were reportedly uncooperative with law enforcement.

Thursday at approximately 2:00 p.m. a deputy located Cordova and arrested him. He was charged with attempting to elude a police officer in a vehicle and on foot, third-degree escape and reckless driving. Cordova was detained without bail.
