April 16, 2026 3:30 a.m.

Umpqua Valley Tennis Center will host an official grand opening party to introduce local residents to Roseburg’s new $2.53 million outdoor tennis and pickleball courts on Saturday, May 9th.

A City of Roseburg release said the community is invited to play for free on the newly renovated courts from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. or just stop by to view the courts and enjoy the celebratory barbecue at the facility in the 1200 block of Northwest Stewart Parkway. It includes eight tennis courts, ten dedicated pickleball courts and new fencing, lighting, seating, entryway and security system.

UVTC will serve hamburgers and hot dogs at the free event which will feature a beer and wine garden.

The overhaul was financed with a $750,000 state grant won by Roseburg Parks and Recreation Program Manager Val Ligon, $523,000 in city funds, and $1.252 million in matching community funds from individuals, businesses and foundations that were raised by UVTC.

Adults will continue to pay just $2 to use the courts, while youths aged 18 and under always play for free. Plus, UVTC will offer non-members new month-to-month memberships for just the outdoor courts. These are the only outdoor public courts in the Roseburg area.
