DRIVER OF PRESUMED STOLEN VEHICLE ELUDES CAPTURE

The driver of a subcompact sedan eluded by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday evening.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 6:40 p.m. a deputy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle with no license plate in the 2400 block of Old Highway 99 South, south of Roseburg. The driver identified himself as “SUSPECT” and stated that he did not have his wallet with him. It was eventually determined that his driving status was suspended.

As the deputy was filling out a citation, the driver took off and headed northbound on Old Highway 99 South. During the area search, dispatch advised there was a near hit on a VIN showing a stolen vehicle out of Portland. The vehicle’s information matched the description of the vehicle
