Roseburg Police jailed a man following a reported hit and run incident on Saturday.
An RPD report said at 5:15 p.m. officers responded to a crash near the intersection of Northwest Stewart Parkway and Northwest Aviation Drive. The suspect, 42-year-old Brian Schwartz fled the scene of the wreck trying to drive away but his vehicle broke down due to the severity of the damage. He left on foot but was found by a Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputy a short distance away.
Schwartz admitted to driving but claimed he didn’t remember hitting a vehicle. He was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center where he was medically cleared. His passenger told officers that Schwartz was traveling at a high rate of speed and was driving erratically before the crash.
Schwartz was charged with reckless driving, failure to perform the duties of a driver-property damage and recklessly endangering another person. He was detained on $18,750 bail.
