WASHINGTON’S BIRTHDAY/PRESIDENT’S DAY CLOSURES LISTED

February 16, 2026 4:00 a.m.

Monday is Washington’s Birthday, also known as President’s Day and that means there are a number of closures.

Federal, state, county and city offices are closed. No regular mail will be delivered. School is not in session. Banks and credit unions will not be open. Many professional offices are closed though some remain open, as do most retail outlets.

Washington’s Birthday was established as a federal holiday in 1879 and moved from February 22nd to being celebrated on the third Monday in February by the Uniform Monday Holiday Act which was passed by Congress in 1968.
