A H.O.P.E. Drug Court Graduate Phase Participant is leading a community drive to support youth served at the Adapt Deer Creek Adolescent Treatment Center.

The effort aims to collect specific art supplies and weighted blankets that support therapeutic programming and daily living needs for adolescents receiving treatment.

H.O.P.E. Drug Court Graduate Phase Participant Carmaleeta Hawkins said, “I chose Deer Creek Adolescent Treatment Center for my community project because their mission is deeply personal to me”. Hawkins said she spent time in inpatient facilities as a child and remembers how overwhelming and lonely that experience could feel. Hawkins said, “Providing these kids with weighted blankets and art supplies is my way of giving them comfort, creativity and a sense of security at a difficult time. If my story and my project can help even one child feel seen, supported, and a little less alone, then it’s all worth it.”

Requested donation items include adult coloring books, gel pens or fine tip markers, yarn, embroidery thread, large plastic beads for bracelets, small diamond art kits, acrylic paint, paper-sized flat canvases, clay, small packs of Play-Doh and twin-sized weighted blankets for youth staying at the facility. Donations can be dropped off at Painted Horse Recovery at 1941 Northeast Stephens in Roseburg by Friday, March 6th.

The next H.O.P.E. Drug Court graduation ceremony will be held on March 31st at 5:15 p.m. in the Cascade Hall of the fairgrounds.
