Roseburg Police charged a man Thursday with first-degree arson and recklessly endangering another person following a prior incident.

An RPD report said on January 19th, officers and the Roseburg Fire Department responded to a residence in the 700 block of Southeast Kane Street, regarding a possible gas leak at the location. Fire personnel entered an apartment and found a 74-year-old man inside. He was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center for an evaluation. The man reportedly made several statements that he was trying to blow up the apartment because he was mad at the landlord.

The fire marshal investigated and noted fire damage inside the residence behind the range. The gas line had been removed from behind the range. Thursday afternoon, shortly after 1:00 p.m. the man was contacted and placed into custody. He was detained without bail.
